Emotion Code
An energy-based approach that uses muscle testing to identify and release what practitioners call trapped emotions.
The Emotion Code is a system developed by Dr. Bradley Nelson that uses applied kinesiology (muscle testing) to identify what practitioners describe as 'trapped emotions' — emotional energies believed to have become stuck in the body's energy field during difficult past experiences. Once identified, the practitioner uses a magnet or their hand drawn along the governing meridian to release the energy. Sessions can be conducted in person or remotely. The method has a dedicated following and its own internal logic, though its mechanisms are not scientifically established. It is best understood as an energy-based complementary approach rather than a clinical intervention.
Muscle testing–based work aimed at identifying and clearing emotional energy held in the body.
What to expect: Sessions typically last 60 minutes and may be conducted in person or remotely. The practitioner uses muscle testing — often with the client's arm resistance or a surrogate method in remote sessions — to identify specific trapped emotions. A magnet or hand stroke along the governing meridian completes the release. Sessions feel quiet and non-intrusive. There is no required verbal processing. Results vary considerably — some people report a felt sense of lightness or shift; others notice subtler changes over time. An initial series of 3–5 sessions gives you enough experience to assess whether this approach resonates with you.
Good fit for: You are open to energy-based frameworks without requiring scientific explanation, You want a non-verbal, non-invasive session experience, You are drawn to a structured, practitioner-guided process, You are curious about approaches that sit outside conventional frameworks
Explore for: Curiosity about energy-based approaches to emotional patterns, A sense of carrying emotional weight that hasn't shifted with other methods, Interest in non-verbal approaches to personal healing, Openness to working within a structured energetic framework, A desire for a gentle, non-invasive session experience
Not the right fit if: You need evidence-based treatment for a medical or psychological condition, You prefer or require talk-based, verbal processing, You are skeptical of frameworks that cannot be scientifically verified, You need urgent mental health or medical care
How to choose a practitioner: Look for certification through the Emotion Code Certified Practitioners program (offered by Discover Healing) Ask how long they have been practicing and what continuing training they do Be cautious of practitioners who make medical claims or promise specific outcomes Ask directly what a session involves so expectations are clear before you begin
