Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction
A structured approach to attention, awareness, and stress resilience.
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is an 8-week structured program developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts. It combines mindfulness meditation, body scanning, and gentle yoga to cultivate present-moment awareness and reduce the impact of stress. It is one of the most studied mindfulness-based interventions, with substantial research support.
A structured 8-week program building attention, awareness, and stress resilience.
What to expect: The standard MBSR program is 8 weekly sessions of approximately 2.5 hours, plus a full-day retreat weekend. There is also significant home practice expected — typically 45 minutes per day. The program is skills-based and educational; it is not therapy. Individual variations exist, including shorter or adapted formats. MBSR is a full 8-week program — the structure is intentional. By week 4 or 5, most participants begin to notice shifts. If you are not noticing anything by that point, it is worth speaking with the teacher about what might be getting in the way.
