Therapeutic Touch
A non-contact, hands-above-body energy approach developed in nursing, used for relaxation and comfort.
Therapeutic Touch (TT) is an energy-based approach developed by Dolores Krieger and Dora Kunz in the 1970s. It involves the practitioner moving their hands above the body (without physical contact) to assess and work with the energy field. It has been used in some nursing and healthcare settings as a complementary approach for relaxation and comfort.
A gentle, structured energy approach originally developed for use in healthcare settings.
What to expect: Sessions are typically 20–45 minutes. The practitioner works above the body without contact. The experience is quiet and often described as calming. There is no manipulation, pressure, or discomfort. 3–5 sessions gives you a sense of how this approach feels for you. Talk with your practitioner about what you are noticing — a responsible practitioner will help you assess whether continued sessions are a good fit.
Good fit for: You are very sensitive to physical touch, You want a receiving, passive, non-contact experience, You are open to energy-based frameworks, You are looking for a gentle complement to other care
Explore for: Wanting a non-contact, extremely gentle approach, Relaxation and settling alongside other care, Sensitivity to physical touch, Curiosity about energy-based approaches in a healthcare-informed tradition, Complementary support during illness or recovery

How to choose a practitioner: Look for practitioners trained through recognized TT programs with formal curricula Ask about their background and how they approach this work Be cautious of large clinical claims — TT is a complementary, experiential approach
